ABSTRACT
Our paper focusses on the existing achievement-oriented payment systems at the Universities of Ventspils/ Latvia and Oradea/ Romania. We present and characterize these payment models discussing possibilities and borders of their effects and impacts. Moreover we try to find an answer to the following question: How do these achievment-oriented models motivate and for what? Are they primarily used as an instrument to support the reforms according to Bologna or are they also used to recognize and reward individual achievement of the academic staff.
