Prof. Grau invited at the opening of the International Media Art Biennale Seoul

More than 300 auditors took part in the debate between Professor Oliver Grau and Prof. Dr. Douglas Kellner (UCLA) at the Seoul Museum of History. Afterwards the 5th Biennale where works of more than 100 international artists are exposed in the Korean capital, has been inaugurated in the presence of the mayor of Seoul.

1st Austrian Mobile Music Day took place on the 7th of February

Even if, according to the Federation of Austrian Music Industry, the Austrian download market grew in 2007 by 50 percent in relation to the previous year, music lovers show a lot of restraint when it comes to downloads to mobile phones. This was reflected in the initial evaluation of the “1st Austrian Mobile Music Day” which took place on the 7th of February 2008 at Danube University Krems.

On November 15th Professor Grau opened the second international conference re:place on the Histories of Media Art in the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin with a keynote. Grau is the conference´s founding director who in 2005 brought together 19 disciplines in Banff, Canada, from art history through media science up to film studies and musicology.

The literary scientist Univ.-Prof. Klaus Zeyringer, Ph.D. from the Université Catholique de l´Ouest in Angers (France) visited the Department for Arts and Management. He attended meetings with Prof. Gerhard Gensch, Ph.D. and Christine Grond, Ph.D. and they spoke about projected continuing education programs in the areas of literary management and literary facilitating.

Ulla Neuwirther, M.A., graduate of the TV & Film Production program, received the ORF award in the course of the competition for the Carl-Mayer-Prize for Best Screenplay 2007, for her treatment entitled “Running Sushi“.

The Department for Image Sciences awarded the Rudolf Arnheim scholarship for the participation in the university course MediaArtHistories, MA, to the Nigerian artist Reginald Njemanze for the first time.

The Nigerian sculptor Reginald Njemanze received the Rudolf Arnheim MediaArtHistories Scholarship, which was advertised by the Department for Image Science in tribute to the scientific merits of the famous art historian and cognitive psychologist, Rudolf Arnheim.

Department for Image Science establishes New Media Art Master’s Program

This week the first international master’s course in Media Art Histories started at the Department for Image Science with students from Europe and other continents.

The program is in English and part of the new international orientation of the Department for Image Science, which is directed by Univ. Prof. Dr. Oliver Grau. The students participate from Hungary, USA, Switzerland, Nigeria and Austria.
