Academic valuation program with module week in the UK
16.02.2011
To meet the international demands of the academic program "International Real Estate Valuation" the Department for Building and Environment is working together with the Kingston University London. A consequence of this cooperation is the first module week of the Master’s Program held in the UK from 17th to 22nd of January 2011.
Topic of the week were aspects of sustainability in relation to the valuation of real estate. The School of Surveying and Planning and its head Sarah Sayce of Kingston University London are pioneers in this field.

The program consisted of numerous lectures and excursions - including one by Sarah Sayce on the question of what future challenges the industry will face in the context of "sustainability" and how this will affect the value of real property. Philip Parnell, who is responsible for "sustainability" at Drivers Jonas Deloitte, provided insight into the British valuation practice. Led by Jürg Bernet, visiting professor at Danube University Krems, the students studied the major "Green Building Rating Systems" in groups. A sightseeing tour took the participants to CEREB (Centre for Efficient and Renewable Energy in Buildings) as well as to real estate and urban development projects such as the Tower 42 and Canary Wharf.

The students were enthusiastic about the week: Their interest in sustainability in the real estate industry has been intensified and their awareness of the challenges ahead have been enhanced. With this additional knowledge they have now gone one step further on the way to professional real estate valuation.
