Our Aims

Natural light is of central importance for the visual, energetic and ergonomic quality of buildings.
The aim of the activities of the Center for Light Planning and Lightlab Krems is to anchor this importance in the awareness of architectural professionals and their clients.

The design of daylight-sensitive buildings responds to the path of the sun and climatic conditions at the location. The harmonization of quantitative records of direct and diffuse light with optimal energetic building characteristics is therefore an essential design criterion.
At the same time living habits and new findings about the importance of light on health and well-being will impact on developments of future building projects.

The dissemination of knowledge on natural light as the key to a livable built environment is therefore very important to us.

Our Core Competencies

Research and consulting activities allow continuous growth of new daylight-relevant findings. The handling with approved and new tools for design, measurement and simulation of building concepts is essential.

The engineering application of measuring instruments and computer-aided calculation methods, coupled with architectural understanding is a prerequisite for the continuation of ongoing research, consulting and important base in teaching.

Relationships between building geometry, facade design and location parameters are illustrated impressively on the basis of models in the lightlab of the Department for Building and Environment.
These design decisions according to daylight optimized design are reviewed or brought about. That rare and important research facility is at disposal to any interested people.
