Never before the world of images has changed so fast and the way images are produced transformed so drastically like in the latest presence: Second Life, Micromovies, Flickr, Virtual Reality, You Tube, Visual Music, Scientific Visualisation, Google Earth etc. are keywords standing for a multitude of new possibilities for individual producing, projecting and distributing of visual material.

The image historical development from innovation, reflection till prohibition of images comes up to a global complexity in the 21st century. These transformations have hit society to a large extent unprepared. Nevertheless we have to recognize that without further development of new forms of visualization and “orders of visibility”, their reflection and criticism we will not be able to handle the burst of knowledge of our time.
Which artistic inspirations new worlds of images have to face? What influence does the medium have on the iconic character of the image? What chances and challenges do museums and image dealers face with the “liquidity” of the image?
Together with international colleagues from science and art and the keynotes Felice FRANKEL (Harvard University, MIT) and Barbara STAFFORD (Chicago) the conference will discuss the inventory, classification and historiography of the recent worlds of images concerning the spheres of the public, art, entertainment and science.

How to register
To register for the Conference, please fill out the online registration form. You will be invoiced by the Danube University when we receive your registration. Please be aware that your registration will not be considered complete until the registration fee has been received.

Cancellation/Refund Policy
|
Cancellations must be made in writing by sending an e-mail to andrea.kaufmann@donau-uni.ac.at. Once payment has been made, 50% refunds will be granted if the cancellation is made before October 1st 2008. After October 1st , no refunds will be given. "NO SHOWS" are non-refundable and are liable for the full registration fee.
The DEPARTMENT FOR IMAGE SCIENCE is situated in the Goettweig Monastery in the UNESCO World Heritage Wachau.
