Series of lectures

Leading experts discuss how digital technologies and digital art change our perception of and interaction with images and how museums and archives answer the new challenges of collection management, research and education. The lecture series “Museum and Archive on the Move” invites international renowned experts from art, art history, cultural-, media- and museum studies to present their latest findings, new approaches and improvement strategies and introduces pioneering interdisciplinary research results.

New Publication

New Project Funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF): Innovative Tools for Media Art Research

Innovative tools for the image sciences are being developed by “Interactive Archive and Meta-Thesaurus for Media Art Research (AT.MAR),” a project led by Professor Oliver Grau, Chair of Image Sciences.It is the first FWF project of this category at the Danube University Krems. A “Thesaurus bridge” will be developed which for the first time will enable comparative study of image phenomena from the Renaissance to the present day.

The Vilem Flusser Prize for artistical research was awarded during this year´s Transmediale to the American artist and neurobiologist Warren Neidich for his research project “Neuropower” in the The House of World Cultures in Berlin. The project Neuropower “is a manipulation in the literal sense of the word” says the jury. With more than 30.000 visitors Transmediale is Germany´s largest Media Art Festival.

Prof. Grau opened re:place 2007 in the Haus der Kulturen der Welt

On November 15th Professor Grau opened the second international conference re:place on the Histories of Media Art in the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin with a keynote. Grau is the conference´s founding director who in 2005 brought together 19 disciplines in Banff, Canada, from art history through media science up to film studies and musicology.
