The European eGovernment Awards funded by the European Commission aim to select innovative practices on the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the public sector. The Center for European Public Administration at Danube University Krems has been lead contractor for the renowned awards scheme since 2007. Christine Leitner is programme director of the Awards since their launch in 2003.

About the European eGovernment Awards

The overall goal of the European eGovernment Awards is the promotion of good practice among the Member States of the enlarged European Union, the candidate countries as well as the EFTA countries. This includes the facilitation of the sharing of experience and mutual learning from each other in order to meet the Lisbon targets and make Europe the most competitive knowledge-based economy by 2010.

The best applications are selected for exhibition at a high-level conference on the topic. The most outstanding applications presented at the conference are awarded with the prestigious European eGovernment Awards Trophy. The European eGovernment Awards programme follows the eEurope Awards which gave recognition to innovative initiatives in the areas of eGovernment and eHealth within Europe in the period 2003 to 2005.
