Mission Statement of Campus Culture

Danube University Krems regards art and culture not simply as decorative padding but as an indispensable contribution to the everyday university life of teaching, learning and research; because art promotes the cross-disciplinary dialogue among students and teachers and helps to create an atmosphere which combines intellectual performance and sensuous experience. The culture programme on the campus is therefore directed primarily at staff and students of the Danube University Krems, but is intended to bring together the university and persons from Krems and the region who are interested in art at the same time. With its public exhibitions, readings, concerts, performances and workshops, Danube University Krems also wishes to make its specific contribution as a member of the Kunstmeile Krems (“art-mile Krems”).

In this context we have a duty towards contemporary art, and especially towards the dialogue between art and science; for many of today's artists use scientific methods and operate on the borderline between fascination and fright, while scientists, on the other hand, turn to the arts in order to learn something from them.
