Diplomacy in Difficult Environments

'Diplomacy' represents one of the most enduring institutions of modern statehood. However, in a globalizing world its requirements go far beyond the classic functions of negotiations between nations. Today, not only the demands and working methods of international diplomacy are modified but also new diplomatic actors appear, raising claims to actively contribute to shaping world politics. For this reason, we understand 'diplomacy' in a broader sense including para-diplomatic functions in international organizations, task forces, civil and military services, NGOs and the business. This interdisciplinary program offers a comprehensive understanding of complex political issues providing in-depth knowledge of identifying solutions for a globalized world context, including a better knowledge of non-Western perceptions.
The program´s uniqueness lies in the linkage of theoretical approaches with policy implications. It introduces perspectives on the study of world politics, international relations and socio-economic transformation. A special emphasis is given to security, human rights protection, migration and refugee crisis, intercultural dialogue as well as the training of practical skills for the international arena.

Full-time employment is compatible with this program. Participants will benefit from a network of colleagues from around the world.
