General job description

Sustainability is one of the major issues of our time. The Department of Legal Studies and International Relations aims to establish a scientific focus on the area of ”Corporate Sustainability” and to build a center that focuses on integrated and interdisciplinary research addressing all facets of corporate sustainability. The focus is on economic success while protecting the biophysical foundations and achieving societal goals.

Your responsibilities and profile

The responsibilities of the assistant professor include supporting the establishment of the center on “Corporate Sustainability” and the dedicated representation of the field in research, teaching, and development. The future job holder should have a background of economics, management, or legal studies with demonstrated collaborations with other disciplines such as environmental sciences, or other social sciences. The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to establish an own working group in this area. Leadership experience would be advantageous, as the assistant professor will take on a leading role in the center. The assistant professor is expected to develop national and international networks in this field. They will be developing their own research agenda, which will typically be of an inter- and/or transdisciplinary nature.  

Your tasks

  • Independent research in the field of “Corporate Sustainability”
  • Acquiring/securing research grants at international, national and regional levels
  • Developing a strong publication record
  • Presentation of results at relevant international and national conferences
  • Development and delivery of innovative continuing education courses in the field of “Corporate Sustainability”
  • Inter- and/or transdisciplinary cooperation
  • Establishing an own working group
  • Developing national and international networks

To be considered for the position, the following selection criteria must be met

  • Completed university degree (Doctorate/PhD) in business, economics, or law (preferably with the focus on “Economic Law”)
  • Scientific track record, with national and/or international publications in the field
  • Good German (at least C1 level) and English (at least B2 level) language skills
  • Equal opportunity and diversity competence is expected, or in the absence thereof, the willingness to complete relevant further training within two years

Desirable scientific expertise should include

  • Proven national or internationally recognized research activity with relevance to the field of “Entrepreneurship” and/or “Sustainability”, with a preference for an economic approach
  • Proven inter- and/or transdisciplinary research experience
  • Leadership experience and management competence
  • Relevant scientific experience (academic or non-academic), in particular at the interface of economic sciences (business or economics), natural sciences (esp. environmental sciences such as ecology, environmental chemistry, atmospheric science, geosciences, environmental biology, environmental engineering, environmental health and sustainability science), social sciences (esp. social policy, public policy, corporate social responsibility, social or health economics, sustainability studies, sociology) and law
  • Research experience in the fields of: Entrepreneurship, Sustainability, CSR, CSRD, CSDDD, Green Deal
  • Scientific or professional commitment in the field of “Corporate Sustainability”, for example through conference presentations, memberships in scientific associations and/or review collages, co-authorships, or editorships
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Some experience in own entrepreneurial activities

Your perspective

The University of Krems is committed to supporting the successful candidate during the qualification period of four to six years. We will provide the necessary resources and opportunities to meet the requirements of the qualification agreement and obtain a tenured Associate Professorship. As such, the position of Assistant Professor is initially limited to four to six years, depending on the nature of the appointment. For part-time positions, the duration of the role is limited to six years.

The remuneration for this Assistant Professorship will be EUR 5,595.60 gross per month on a full-time basis (according to the collective agreement of the universities §49 VwGr. A2). Higher salary may be agreed upon, depending on the applicant’s qualifications and experience. The successful candidate may work part-time (minimum 30 hours per week) and will be awarded a permanent position as an Associate Professor after the successful completion of the qualification agreement within the given time frame.
