Following schooling in Brazil and the United States, Miguel Kertsman attended Berklee College of Music in Boston receiving scholarships and graduating with honors in record time in Music, Production, and Engineering. Further studies included composition with Lithuanian modernist Jeronimas Kačinskas, and Walter Piston’s pupil John Bavicchi; orchestral conducting with Attilio Poto - Arturo Toscanini’s and Serge Koussevitzky’s clarinetist and assistant - at the Boston Conservatory; and composition with Prof. Stanley Wolfe at the Juilliard School in New York.

Kertsman’s compositions and record productions go beyond music genre boundaries encompassing Symphonic, Chamber, and Vocal Music for the Concert Stage, as well as Theater, Jazz, Pop, Electronica, and music for applied media. His Orchestral and Chamber Music works have been performed or recorded in New York, London, Rio de Janeiro, Bonn, Vienna, São Paulo, Linz, Chicago, and at the United Nations by: mezzo soprano Angelika Kirchschlager, guitarist John Williams, Wiener Symphoniker Kammerorchester, conductor Dennis Russell Davies, flutists Wolfgang Schulz (Vienna Philharmonic), and Marina Piccinini, the Opera Viva Ensemble, Bruckner Orchester Linz, St. Paul’s Chamber Orchestra, among others. Kertsman’s music has been globally released on CD by Sony Classical, and RCA Victor Group / BMG, and published in print by Universal Edition, Kossack Edition and other companies. His works and/or record productions have been extensively reviewed by the international press, broadcast and featured on the radio across all continents. Production Awards have included a Grammy Award Nomination, and the Cannes Classical Award.

Miguel Kertsman has held executive posts or consulted for global record companies and studios, including A&R (Artist and Repertoire), production, audio engineering, music technology and acoustics: Sony Music Entertainment, Kirkegaard Acoustics (Royal Festival Hall London, Carnegie Hall NYC, Bavarian State Opera Munich), RCA Victor Group / BMG, Chesky Records, etc.

Kertsman has served as faculty, artist-in-residence, and curriculum developer at Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts College in Chicago, a unit of Robert de Niro’s Tribeca Enterprises. He has lectured and held seminars at the Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki, Northwestern University, University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, while serving as faculty at the IES Abroad University Consortium - Vienna Center. Kertsman has designed courses and curricula for Danube University Krems, serving in the Center for Applied Music Research academic team as faculty while directing the Master of Arts programs in Music Management, and Music for Applied Media.
