Mathias Czaika takes over the agenda from migration expert Gudrun Biffl
13.09.2017
After almost ten years at Danube University Krems, Prof. Dr. Gudrun Biffl hands the reins as head of the Department of Migration and Globalization at Danube University Krems to Prof. Dr. Mathias Czaika. The economist had been associate professor of migration and development at Oxford University and director of the International Migration Institute (IMI). The handover ceremony will take place on 26 September in the Audimax at Danube University Krems.

Prof. Dr. Mathias Czaika, who previously researched and taught in Oxford, becomes the newly appointed head of the Department of Globalization and Migration at Danube University Krems. The migration expert takes over the agendas of Prof. Dr. Gudrun Biffl, who is retiring after almost 10 years as head of the department. Born in Germany and father of four, Mathias Czaika says he wishes to “continue leading the department’s existing expertise and expand the research-based teaching and excellent research with the quality standards and experience from Oxford.” His areas of specialization include international migration movements, migration and globalization, development and inequality, decision processes, migration policy and efficacy. „Particularly when topics are as hotly debated in the public arena as migration and integration are, science is mandated to deliver facts and research-based analyses to assist policy makers with basing their decisions on factual ground,“ say the migration researcher.

Ceremonial handover
To mark the occasion of the official handover, the Department is holding an official ceremony on 26 September 2017 between 10am and 1pm at the Audimax, Danube University Krems.
