Understanding complexity: an event with Harvard professor Francine Grodstein and complexity researcher David Garcia
New Research Summit Series at Danube University Krems starts 23 October 2017 – focusing on challenges facing society

The kick-off event for the new Research Summit Series at Danube University Krems is dedicated to how complexity research contributes to solving current and future societal challenges. On 23 October 2017, Professor Francine Grodstein from the Harvard School for Public Health, and Dr. David Garcia from the Complexity Science Hub Vienna, will present their research findings on happiness in an aging society and the digital trails of collective emotions.

The kick-off event for the new Research Summit Series at Danube University Krems will be held in the Audimax at the Krems-based University for Continuing Education and is titled “Current and Future Societal Challenges: Understanding Complexity.” Francine Grodstein, professor at the Department of Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H.Chan School for Public Health, will speak on the topic „Aging Society & Happiness“. Francine Grodstein is research head and director of the long-term cohort study „Nurses‘ Health Study“ (NHS). The second speaker of the evening, Dr. David Garcia, group leader at the Complexity Science Hub Vienna, will examine emotions, following the digital traces of collective emotions.

 

This will be followed afterwards by a panel discussion with Prof. Dr. Viktoria Weber, Vice-Rector of Research at Danube University Krems, Prof. DDr. Eva Schernhammer, professor at the Medical University Vienna, Prof. Dr. Gerald Steiner, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Globalization and Prof. Dr. Mathias Czaika, head of the Department of Migration and Globalization at Danube University Krems. In the evening Danube University Krems will host an informal get together.

 

New Research Summit Series
In the course of the newly initiated event - the Danube University Krems „Research Summit Series“ - current trends and research approaches will be introduced and discussed with internationally renowned scientists. The research series takes place twice a year and is aimed at researchers, stakeholders from administration and business, as well as interested members of the general public.

 

The event is held in English and is open to all. Participants are asked to register in advance with Christine Perkonigg, MsC (christine.perkonigg@donau-uni.ac.at).
