22.08.2018
Peter Parycek, Professor of e-governance at Danube University Krems, was appointed to the Digital Council of the German Federal Government, as announced on 22 August at the national press conference. As part of this 10-member advisory body, Parycek, a specialist in internet law, will directly advise the German chancellor on matters relating to digitalisation.

Univ.-Prof. Mag. Dr. Peter Parycek, MAS, MSc was delighted with his appointment to the Council, which convened for the first time on 22 August in Berlin. “Digital change is not only a challenge but a great opportunity for all parts of society – an opportunity that must be leveraged, considering the rapidly advancing use of information technology around the world,” says Parycek on the occasion of the Digital Council taking up its work against the backdrop of critical reflection on this disruptive technology, emphasizing the necessity of political supervision.

The Digital Council has three Austrian members, among them Prof. Dr. Viktor Mayer-Schönberger, professor of Internet Governance at the Oxford Internet Institute, and is chaired by Dr. Karin Suder, neuroinformatician and former State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry of Defense. As a government body, the Digital Council reports directly to the German Chancellor, advising on digitalisation issues and hence supporting the government of the largest European national economy.

Parycek also formerly advised the Austrian Federal Government
On 1 July 2017, Peter Parycek, professor of e-governance at Danube University Krems, took over as head of the competence centre “Öffentliche IT” (ÖFIT) in Berlin. ÖFIT is part of the Digital Public Services business division at Fraunhofer FOKUS – the Fraunhofer Institute of Open Communications Systems. Prior to his work at Danube University Krems, he was a scientific adviser to the Austrian Federal Chancellery and led a number of projects and working groups in the fields of e-democracy and e-governance.

As a lawyer, Peter Parycek’s work is inter and trans-disciplinary at the hub of legal policy, social and technological developments. His research focuses on the role of technology in politics and administration, and its effects on existing legal and organizational systems.

The Department for e-Governance and Administration at Danube University Krems, headed by Prof. Parycek, is concerned with continuing education and research in the fields of e-governance and business informatics in computerized value chains. The research takes an inter and trans-disciplinary approach to the impact of digital and societal change on strategy, organisation and processes in the context of the changing requirements in administration, business, politics and society.
