24.09.2015
In a few days the newly redesigned master’s programs „Music Management“ and „Music for Film & Media“ will start at Danube-University Krems. The part-time advanced courses support motivated students to qualify for rapidly changing national and international markets combining theory and practice of music, film and media studies, economics and legal competencies.

Music Management

The master's programme „Music Management“ supports students in qualifying for careers in the rapidly changing music industry, both as musicians and management professionals. It links music theory and practice with crucial entrepreneurial skills, management techniques and expert knowledge from the industry. By developing business, technical and legal skills as well as industry know-how, our course programme cultivates hands-on competencies for successful international music careers. Continuous face-to-face sessions and in-depth discussions with academic lecturers and industry experts blend current hot topics, such as digital music distribution, A&R management or new business models, with practical insights from professionals. National and international excursions and networking events are additionally organised to enhance the personal career profiles and networks of our students.

The program features strategic international relationships with top industry professionals, superlative faculty, and collaborations with other institutions (e.g. Buckinghamshire New University, UK; Frost School of Music, USA). Faculty highlights include Andrew Armour, Benchstone Ltd., Prof. Reynaldo Sanchez, University of Miami, USA, Elisabeth Sobotka, Bregenz Festival, René Renner, Feraltone, Gabriel Teschner, Artist & Reportoire Manager, Sikorski Musikverlage, Hamburg, Ulla Kalchmair, Salzburg Festival or Petra Hinterholzer, Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation.

Music for Film & Media

Mm Mfm En

The artistic production landscape in music for film and media continues to change and evolve at an overwhelming pace. A globalised, technology driven world not only opens doors to new creative possibilities, but also to new challenges, as well as artistic and business driven expectations. The paradigms are quite different from those of the "legacy" industry just a few years ago. How does one define success? Who is the composer nowadays and what must s/he do to be competitive in the marketplace and increase her/his chances of achieving the desired level of success?

The master's programme "Music for Film & Media" follows a modular platform affording graduate students and professionals seeking further training and education access to geographical and scheduling flexibility. Moreover, as technology and trends develop at a great speed, the modular system allows the program to continuously remain up-to-date and ahead of the curve.

The program features strategic international relationships with top industry professionals, superlative faculty, and collaborations with other institutions (e.g. University of Miami, USA; Bucks New University, UK). Faculty highlights include former Warner Brothers worldwide deputy chief legal counsel Judith Merians, mega video game "Halo" composer Michael Salvatori, Berklee College of Music VP of Academic Affairs Jay Kennedy among many others. Course director Miguel Kertsman is an international composer, record producer, and music technology consultant, having also served in the industry as label executive and audio engineer.
