A stellar faculty body comprised of internationally established professionals and educators share extensive knowledge and experiences with our music management students. Guest faculty in february: Elisabeth Sobotka, artistic director of the Bregenzer Festival, and music manager and entrepreneur Philip Antoniades.

Vienna-born Elisabeth Sobotka studied musicology, theatre studies, communication studies and business studies at the University of Vienna, where she wrote her master's thesis on the composer and conductor Franco Faccio. She completed a course in cultural management at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and during her studies she worked at the Salzburg Festival in concert management and artistic administration. In the 1990/91 season she worked in artistic administration at Jeunesse – Musikalische Jugend Österreichs in Vienna, before moving to Leipzig Opera in 1992 and becoming head of production management. In the years 1994 to 2002 she was chief stage and personnel manager at Vienna State Opera. From 2002 until the end of 2007 she held the post of director of opera at Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden. Since September 2009 she has been executive artistic director of Graz Opera. Since January 2015 she is artistic director of the Bregenz Festival.

 

 

 

 Philip Antoniades – Music Manager, Entrepreneur

 

Over the last 25 years, Philip Antoniades has been consistently involved in mu-sic industry running an indie record label (Purple Turtle / CD Freedom), a management company (Johnny Brock Management), producing records (Barbara Kess-ler), creating one of the first online music stores (CDFreedom.com sold to Artist Development) and in the role of CEO, building a multi-million dollar indie-artist support company (Artist Development Associates) which eventually merged with Nimbit Inc. As Co-Founder and President, Phil drove the Product Development and Support Teams to create a platform providing applications that guide and engage artists in the process a direct and supportive business relationship with their fans. Nimbit was acquired by PreSonus Audio in 2012. After exiting Nimbit, Philip turned his attention to building a real estate holdings and management company PMC Global. He continues to consult for incubator companies and young entrepreneurs.As a serial entrepreneur, he is fascinated by the challenge of creating and driving new solutions, regularly participating on industry panels, and seminars at music conferences and lecturing at colleges and universities, including Harvard Business School, Belfast Music Week, Danube University, CMJ and SXSW among others. Phil’s approach to the music industry comes from a unique combination of the artist's as well as the business' point of view.

 As a professional drummer, he continues to actively tour and record internationally. He successfully applies the skills required to perform and improvise within a group directly to guiding teams to create and build productive businesses.As a musician, following a tour in Japan in the mid ‘80s, Phil was offered a full scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music, beginning a stream of gigs with punk bands, singer songwriters, the Spirit of Boston lunch cruise, and flying high opening for the Spin Doctors, Van Halen, BB King, Indigo Girls, Rusted Root, Dave Matthews, Buddy Guy, Peter Frampton, Blood Sweat & Tears etc.
