Center for Religion and Globalization

Globalization does not only encompass economic, political, cultural and technological processes but also religion. Religious beliefs travel across continents, hand in hand with migrants. Transnational ties unfold and raise the religious diversity of our populations. Religions react to global developments and crises but contribute and shape the flow of events themselves through their own actions in an increasingly globalizing world.

The Center analyses the regional change of religious landscapes and the challenges for societies. It acts as a bridge between science and local practices.

The objective is to promote via research, education and training active steps towards interaction and communication between the various religious and secular groups in our societies, thereby promoting social peace and cohesion.

Our focus in research and learning is on:

  • Interreligious dialogue
  • transformation of spirituality in a globalizing world and
  • Islam in Europe
