Aviation & Operational Excellence

Field of Study and Competence

Worldwide companies are facing a rising complexity in their day to day business. Hence companies are facing a highly dynamic and competitive surrounding with enormous pressures regarding costs and efficiency.

“Operational Excellence” analyses and promotes the development of competencies of the mutability of a company, the ability to generate competitive advantages in new business areas within a dynamic environment.

Management concepts as TQM, Six Sigma or Lean Management firstly generated insights into the increase of productivity of organisations. Today managers need more than these tools in order to succeed in a continuous changing environment. Fast access to relevant and latest information is essential in order to be able to meet permanent changing customers’ needs. An intelligent accumulation of organisational knowledge and know-how enables the development of new technologies and new markets as well as supports the entrepreneurial decision making process.

Furthermore the innovation performance of an organisation has an increasing impact on the potential to succeed in business. Accordingly organisations have to look forward and prepare themselves for future scenarios in order to be able to avert potential economic damages. “Resilient organisations” support a culture of innovations, in which the making of mistakes is “necessary” in order to make learning potentials for the organisation transparent.

Students in this field learn about the integrative perspective of management in order to achieve an optimisation of business processes. Embedded into the organisation’s strategy the concept of “Operational Excellence” enables them to achieve the sustainable objectives of the organisation.
