University Professor Dr. Gerald Gartlehner, an expert in evidence-based medicine at the University for Continuing Education Krems, has been named one of the world's most cited researchers for the fifth consecutive year in 2025. This is confirmed by the current list of “Highly Cited Researchers,” which is published annually by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) of the data company Clarivate.
A total of 6,868 researchers from over 1,300 institutions in 60 countries received 7,131 awards this year. The selection honors those scientists whose work has had a particularly significant impact on their field and contributed to the advancement of science and social progress.
The Highly Cited Researchers list is based on data from the Web of Science and includes researchers who have published several so-called “highly cited papers” – i.e., papers that have been among the top one percent of citations in their respective fields over the past eleven years. In addition to quantitative metrics, qualitative analyses and expert evaluations are also taken into account.
“I am delighted to receive this award, but it is first and foremost a recognition of the work of our entire team,” says Gartlehner. “Without a dedicated team of scientists, it would not be possible to conduct scientific work at an international level.”
With his renewed inclusion in the list, Gartlehner underscores the international visibility and relevance of evidence-based medicine at the University for Continuing Education Krems. The Department for Evidence-based Medicine and Evaluation thus makes a significant contribution to promoting scientifically sound health decisions and strengthening confidence in research results.
