The Department for Legal Studies and International Relations and the European Documentation Centre at the University for Continuing Education Krems are announcing the Dr. Alois Mock Science Prize as well as two Dr. Alois Mock Sponsorship Prizes for 2025. In cooperation with the Dr. Alois Mock-Europa-Stiftung (AMES), the awards recognize academic work addressing key questions concerning the development and future of Europe.

The statutory purpose of AMES as a non-profit foundation is decisive in this context. Eligible submissions must contribute “to promoting the idea of the peaceful integration of the peoples of Europe within the framework of pan-European institutions, with the objective of ensuring lasting peace and prosperity in Europe.” The work must have been completed between January 1 and December 31, 2025.

Who may apply?

The Dr. Alois Mock Science Prize is endowed with 1,500 euros and is open to students and academic staff. Eligible submissions include habilitation theses, doctoral dissertations, master’s theses, or comparable academic work addressing a European-related topic in line with the foundation’s purpose.

In addition, two Sponsorship Prizes of 500 euros each will be granted. These are intended for students who have completed a diploma thesis, master’s thesis, bachelor’s thesis, or comparable final thesis with a European focus. In addition to academic quality, the applicants’ social circumstances will also be taken into consideration for the Sponsorship Prizes.

Application and selection procedure

Applications must be submitted by email to edz@donau-uni.ac.at no later than March 31, 2026. Applicants must specify the respective award (“Science Prize” or “Sponsorship Prize”), the title of the thesis, a brief explanation of its contribution to the foundation’s purpose, and the name of the academic supervisor. The application must include the academic work, an evaluation report or transcript, and a curriculum vitae (Europass CV recommended). Incomplete applications cannot be considered.

The award recipients will be selected by an independent jury composed of representatives of the Department for Legal Studies and International Relations and the European Documentation Centre Krems. The decision is final and not subject to appeal. Award recipients will be notified in writing prior to the award ceremony. The awarded papers will also be forwarded to the foundation, which reserves the right to publish them.
