Elective Group Crossmedia Exhibition Strategies

The university course "Crossmedia Exhibition Development" aims to provide students with in-depth problem- and application-oriented skills and knowledge in applied practice of the discipline of image science through a networking of teaching, teaching-related research and practice. The university course has an interdisciplinary orientation and offers students the opportunity to acquire compact basic knowledge in order to professionally develop exhibition development and cross-media knowledge transfer of (scientific) exhibitions and to be able to professionally implement exhibitions through scientifically sound knowledge in all relevant areas. The course imparts basic knowledge of exhibition development in connection with media theory and practice, especially with the most current strategies of participatory and convergent multimedia mediation.

The three classroom modules will take place on the following dates in 2023:
Module 1: 17 - 21.04.2023
Module 2: 12 - 16.06.2023
Module 3: 28.08. - 01.09.2023

Crossmedia knowledge transfer and storytelling in culture and science

Goals

This module introduces the history and theory of the development of exhibitions from the tangible agora to modern virtual exhibitions as examples of crossmedia knowledge transfer. From experiential environments to digital mediation and intervention, different types of scientific, artistic and commercial exhibitions and their mediation are analyzed. Analyzing visitor studies for museums and user experience for digital environments give insights into the parameters and possibilities of storytelling aimed at expanding knowledge.

Media convergence and diversity for contemporary exhibitions in the post-digital age.

Goals

Exhibitions exist in an environment transformed by the digital age. Exhibition development today must answer the contemporary audience’s expectations to combine haptic and digital engagement, as well as opportunity for interactive and participative knowledge construction. This module focuses on the conceptual development of multi-media interpretive techniques as well as deeper examination of crossmedia exhibition project organization most commonly used in creative and cultural projects.

~ Types of mediation and their multiple media forms specifics for virtual, permanent or traveling exhibitions
~ Examining participative methods and rationale for audience engagement and co-creation

The praxis oriented university course imparts expertise for integrating a variety of diverse media into knowledge transfer spaces.Individuals coming from the cultural and media sector who want to explore future-oriented approaches and develop crossmedia exhibition strategies step into real praxis during this module. The focused on practical aspects and best practice examples through both mandatory and optional elements supports individually initiated projects that complete the course.

The university course is interdisciplinary and offers students the opportunity to acquire compact basic knowledge in order to understand and classify motive-history, theory and aesthetics of images of science as well as to be able to professionally implement the practical creation of visualizations of data and scientific results.

The classroom time consists of three five-day modules in which seminars, exercises and lectures on the topics listed below take place.
