The MSc course "Geriatrics" includes clinical geriatric content (equivalent to the Medical Association Diploma in Geriatrics, which is credited), basic scientific methodology (study design, statistics, writing grant applications), an introduction to bio gerontology and social gerontology and touches on aspects of financing and management of care structures. The cooperation with the Viennese nursing hospitals of the “Haus der Barmherzigkeit Group” and Prof. Hardt from Mainz creates a strong practical connection.
The highly interactive modules with seminar character, the group size of maximum 20 people, the diversity of participants from various specialized fields (general medicine, internal medicine, neurology, psychiatry, trauma surgery) and from different countries - Austria, Germany and the cantons of Switzerland – along with doctors from different generations (approx. one third each just before and after training, established doctors and chief physicians) provide a unique opportunity for exchange, discussion and networking. The Master's thesis in the form of a grant application propels students’ own scientific activities.
Graduates of this course acquire important insights into the gerontological disciplines of geriatrics, while learning more about various current geriatric topics and gaining specialized qualifications in the field of geriatrics.
