The dedication of the Certified Program "Iconography " is to analyze the content of image media. Intensively it deals with the identification, interpretation, description and classification of symbols, themes and contents of images. Besides image and media theory, and the applied media iconography issues such as the visual communication capabilities of image media, the interpretation of image content in a historical and/or religious context or the visual staging of political power are discussed in detail. The focus is on Western European cultures; non-European iconography is presented in outlines.

Target group

University graduates and employees in collections, archives, libraries and other cultural areas, but also, for example, people who work in advertising agencies, image archives or press offices working intensively with images and their content.
