“Person-centered psychotherapy” was founded by C. R. Rogers. An individual‘s uniqueness is at the core of this philosophical-humanistic approach, whose one basic tendency and striving is to actualize, i.e. maintain, assert and enhance the personality. To actualize, an organism needs a nurturing environment provided by a specific quality of interaction with others.
For this reason the “person-centered therapy approach” is characterized by unconditional positive regard, emphatic striving for understanding, empathy and real presence, congruence.
