The university course “Social Work to Integrate Refugees” aims to provide students with the necessary expertise and personal competencies (methods) required to assist refugees, as well as an analysis of the refugee movements around Europe and their impact on the Austrian social system with its current forms of guidance and assistance.
Areas focused on include intercultural opportunities, religion, housing, and long-term integration into the workforce. Special emphasis is placed on legal knowledge, expanding the social work methodology repertoire and deepening skills in the required areas.
Volunteers often face stressful situations as a result of their extreme dedication to helping others. Therefore the course also provides techniques for recognizing one’s personal breaking point and implementing coping strategies.
A special feature of this program is the opportunity of professionally supported supervision, intervision and feedback throughout the course.
It targets several groups:
- People voluntarily working with refugees wishing to enhance their knowledge in this area
- People who would like to qualify for a job in refugee management
- People already working with refugees or in refugee management and do not have adequate training
- People who would like to qualify for the university course “Social Work (MSc)”
