The ECOnet project establishes an international, inter-university and interdisciplinary research and teaching cooperation for economic and political development in rural areas. It is ECOnet's declared goal to strengthen and expand the teaching and research area of economic and political development in rural areas through cooperation between the partners and to bring it into focus of a broader and international circle of interested parties.
Austria and Hungary act as ECOnet’s supporting pillars and cover different focal points and expertise through their cooperation. Danube University Krems (DUK) is particularly characterized by its innovative way of imparting knowledge, the strong anchoring of inter- and transdisciplinarity and its promising perspectives. The Andrássy University of Budapest (AUB) is qualified above all by its internationality and interdisciplinarity and its examination of economic and political science issues in Central and (South)Eastern Europe. ECOnet is coordinated by the Institute for Strategic Analysis (ISA). The Province of Lower Austria as initiator takes the lead of netPOL and is represented by the Lower Austrian Research & Education GmbH (NFB).
The mutual supplements of the partner universities represent a feature of success of ECOnet; additionally the aim is to establish a European-wide co-operation with science and educational institutions as external partners.
