Online tutorial
To support careful and consistent documentation, we have prepared a survey and accompanying tutorial. This guide leads the researcher step by step through the process of recording observations, following the structure of our established documentation sheet. It is intended for use by conservators, codicologists, art historians, and all colleagues engaged in the study of textiles used in books.
The tutorial explains how to complete each section of the survey, from general manuscript information to the detailed analysis of fibres, yarn structure, weave, colour, and decorative techniques. It ensures that all contributors—regardless of background or experience—can record their findings in a uniform and reliable manner.
