The University of Continuing Education Krems was the first university in Austria having specified criteria for the implementation, development and evaluation of its virtual learning processes. The e-learning label, awarded by the Servicecenter für Teaching Innovation and Digital Competence Development and the Quality Management and Teaching Development office, serves as an internal quality assurance tool.

The e-learning label, proving to be an effective instrument for internal quality development, ensures both, consistent terminology and comparability of courses offered by the University of Continuing Education Krems.

The label is assigned to blended learning courses consisting of online as well as of face-to-face teaching. If a certain predefined workload ratio of online vs. face-to-face learning is exceeded, application for the label is mandatory.

The internal evaluation process is based on four weighted criteria subject to 50 associated indicators.

The four categories with the respective weighting factors are:

Content Weighting

Information and materials

Provision of all information and materials for students in a structured and clear form

Active use of communication facilities between students and lecturers or the course management

Learning Processes

Type and range of using e-learning elements and tools including support during the online phases

Scope of e-skills (e.g. media skills, didactic skills, experience with communication tools and tutoring) of the team responsible for the course
