As part of the Green Deal for Central Asian Universities (GDCAU) project, a tree was planted on the META University campus in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on behalf of the University for Continuing Education Krems (UWK). The planting took place during an international project workshop hosted by META University, one of the Central Asian partner institutions, and symbolised the growing collaboration between European and Central Asian universities. On behalf of UWK, Prof. Isak Frumin planted the tree, highlighting the shared commitment to sustainability, partnership, and long‑term engagement.
Funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education programme, the Green Deal for Central Asian Universities project brings together 13 universities from Europe and Central Asia. The project aims to integrate the principles of the European Green Deal into university strategies, curricula, research, and outreach activities, while also fostering university‑business cooperation and establishing inter‑university Green Deal Centres for evidence‑based education, innovation, and public engagement.
Planting a tree on behalf of the project partners is a core symbolic activity of GDCAU. Like a young tree, international partnerships grow through care, trust, and sustained cooperation over time. As the tree on the META University campus takes root and develops, it reflects the strengthening relationships between the partner institutions and stands as a lasting symbol of the project’s sustainability, continuity, and long‑term commitment to joint action for a greener future.
