Dr. habil Attila Pausits has been appointed professor for university research and development according to §98 UG2002 as of 1 October 2020. Pausits will also be in charge of the newly created Department for Higher Education Research. The department is a unit of the Faculty of Education, Arts and Architecture.  

University Professor Attila Pausits studied business administration at the University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, received his doctorate at the University of Flensburg and habilitated in economics and organization sciences at the West Hungarian University with headquarters in Sopron in 2015. In 2000 the Hungarian-born and -raised scientist with an internationally proven expertise in organization and governance research, university management and development as well as for the Third Mission of Higher Education joined Danube University Krems. There he was course director of different university programs and head of the Center for Education Management and University Development from 2007 to the end. 

University research and development

Pausits is Chairman of the Board of the European Higher Education Society (EAIR), co-founder and spokesperson of the Austrian Network for Higher Education Research, board member of AUCEN (Austrian University Continuing Education Network) and scientific director and coordinator of the Erasmus Mundus Master Program "Research and Innovation in Higher Education, MSc (MARIHE)". Among other positions, Pausits served as head of the office of the Danube Rectors' Conference in 2007 and 2008.

Pausits is currently involved in the Erasmus+ project Steering Higher Education for Community Engagement (SHEFCE) besides research projects on learning and teaching tools at universities in Africa, Third Mission at universities and quality enhancement of university teaching. Furthermore, he is involved in the project Academic Profession in the Knowledge Society APIKS, together with an international consortium, in research on working and career conditions in academia. The survey of Austrian scientists on research, teaching, governance and careers is currently being conducted and first results are expected in early 2021.

Department for University Research

Attila Pausits is taking over the management of the newly created Department for Higher Education Research at the Faculty of Education, Arts and Architecture. The Department is to support systemic, organizational or actor-centered changes in universities along their strategic or operative tasks through research and consulting on a scientifically sound basis. Strengthening professionalization of the education system through its continuing education programs is a further contribution the department delivers. Courses such as University and Science Management, MSc or Education Management, MSc are offered. Pausits also acts as deputy head of the Department for Continuing Education Research and Educational Technologies.
