From 28th September to 9th October 2020, the Center for Cultural Property Protection at the Department for Building and Environment, in collaboration with ENVIMAT, is organising a Summer School on 'Protecting cultural heritage and cultural landscapes in a climate change'.

The Summer School is part of the Interreg Central Europe-EU project 'STRENCH - Strengthening resilience of Cultural Heritage at risk in a changing environment through proactive transnational cooperation', which brings together partner institutions from Italy, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Germany, Croatia and Austria. STRENCH aims to enhance the capacity of policy makers, authorities, the private sector and other stakeholders to strengthen the resilience of cultural heritage at risk in a changing environment through proactive transnational cooperation and coordination actions. The aim is to develop practical solutions for identifying and assessing the impact of climate change on the protection of cultural heritage and cultural landscapes.

During the first week, from 28th September to 2nd October 2020, participants will be introduced to the topic of cultural heritage and its protection. In the second week, from 5 October to 9 October 2020, the focus will be on the impact of climate change on cultural heritage and the analysis of threats, using climate models. Participants will gain an in-depth insight into the topic through lectures by international experts and practical exercises based on case studies.

The Summer School is aimed at anyone with an interest in the protection of cultural property, including staff of museums, collections, depots and archives, members and staff of emergency services, local authorities and the military, insurance experts, curators, architects and town planners, and art dealers.
