17/02/2022

On 24 February 2022, the international conference is held as a part of the EU Interreg Central Europe project "STRENCH - Strengthening resilience of cultural heritage at risk in a changing environment through proactive transnational cooperation", in which the Department for Building and Environment is involved. The project develops ready-to-use solutions to detect and assess the impacts climate change has in order to protect cultural heritage and cultural landscapes.

Apart from presenting the project itself, the conference will focus on presenting the strategies and tools developed for the protection of cultural heritage and cultural landscapes. These include risk maps generated from satellite data as well as methods for assessing risks and vulnerabilities of cultural assets. Furthermore, attendees can expect presentations on future challenges in risk management of threatened cultural heritage and cultural landscapes as well as discussions on possible gaps in current risk management practices. Adele Cesi from the UNESCO Office of the Italian Ministry of Culture will round off the program with a presentation on World Heritage in Danger.

About the project „STRENCH"

As a follow-up project to the EU Interreg research project "ProteCHt2save", in which the University for Continuing Education Krems participated, STRENCH aims to improve the competencies of policy makers, public authorities, in the private sector and other stakeholders. Thereby, the resilience of the endangered cultural heritage in a changing environment shall be sustainably strengthened through proactive transnational cooperation and coordination measures. The goal is to provide applicable solutions to identify and assess the impacts of climate change to protect cultural heritage and cultural landscapes.
