Rapid Review of Newer Pharmacologic Treatments for Dementia

Dementia is a rapidly growing global health challenge, with a high social and economic burden. According to the World Health Organization, dementia is the seventh leading cause of death and one of the leading causes of disability worldwide. Every year, approximately 10 million people are diagnosed with dementia. There is an urgent need for new and effective treatments. Disease-modifying therapies, including anti–amyloid-beta and anti-tau monoclonal antibodies, have emerged as promising treatment options. However, the therapeutic landscape is evolving rapidly, making up-to-date evidence synthesis essential. The American College of Physicians (ACP) will commission a rapid review of the efficacy and comparative effectiveness and harms of these newer pharmacologic treatments for dementia to inform development of rapid practice points.
