Read photographs critically, as documents and as discourse

Learning result

Students are able to critically situate photography as a pictorial medium within the context of sociopolitical topics and political discourses. Students are able to identify photographs as anthropological and ethnographic documents. Students are able to apply selected concepts from Critical Studies as approaches to interpreting contemporary and historical photographs. Students are able to describe the relationship between photography and identity constructions. Students are able to develop & conduct a discourse-oriented analysis of photographic pictorial media.
