Danube University Krems’ second event of the Research Summit Series lays the focus on medical research excellence. On 14 February 2019 University Prof Dr Hans Lassmann and University Prof Dr Jürg Kesselring will shed light on the Austrian research landscape while discussing what makes research rated as excellent and useful. Afterwards, Prof Harald Ott, M.D., will give insights into the excellence application, in particular on new methods regarding organ regeneration.

Top performance in research manifests the concept of excellence which is guaranteed by outstanding scientists, socially relevant topics and financial support. But what are the prerequisites for such excellent research? The speakers will tackle the question upon the topic "Scientific Excellence: Focus on Medical Sciences" at the Research Summit taking place in the Audimax of Danube University Krems.

Prof Dr Hans Lassmann, neuroimmunologist and founding director of the Center for Brain Research at the University of Vienna, explains which criteria are reasonably applied for excellent research. Prof Dr. Jürg Kesselring, former chief neurologist at the Valens Rehabilitation Centre in Switzerland, presents "Research in a world of tension". Harald Ott, M.D., from the Laboratory for Organ Engineering and Regeneration at Harvard Medical School and Harvard Stem Cell Institute, will present new therapeutic approaches in organ regeneration and excellence through their application, and close the lecture series.

Following the lectures, Prof Dr Viktoria Weber, Vice Rector for Research at Danube University Krems, Prof Dr Hans Lassmann, Prof Dr Jürg Kesselring and Prof Harald Ott, M.D., will discuss the leading topic. A get-together by invitation of Danube University Krems ends the event.
