Description

The project “Sepsis-Unit” will be used for the establishment of a “Sepsis-Unit” which is composed of - a Clinical Unit in the Country-Hospital St.Poelten” (Landes-Klinikum St.Poelten) in the capital of Lower Austria St.Poelten and - a Research project-line in the Danube University Krems dealing with new technologies of sepsis treatment. The specific funding of this project will be focused on the development of an hybrid technology as part of the project line. Such a special “Sepsis Unit” involving also as an industrial partner (Fresenius Medical Care) is a new possibility to improve the prognosis of the disease “Sepsis” which very often has the consequence of a multiorgan failure which has a mortality rate of 20 - 45 %. The clinical orientated “Sepsis-Unit” will be the first specialized unit in Austria which is focussed on patients suffering from the very complex disease “Sepsis". This clinical unit will be strongly linked to the research facilities of the Department of Clinical Medicine and Biotechnology of the Danube University Krems which are mainly orientated to the development of new technologies for the treatment of sepsis based on intelligent blood purification systems. The coordination of the project will be managed by a project coordinator experienced in Intensive Care Medicine and Nephrology being part of the Department of Clinical Medicine and Biotechnology of the Danube University Krems.
