Priorities Under Pressure: Risk, Values, and Decision-Making in Complex Situations

Expert Insights: Online Lecture by Assoz. Prof. Mag. Dr. Anna Maria Kaiser

The Alumni Club of the University for Continuing Education Krems warmly invites you to an online lecture by Assoz. Prof. Dr. Anna Maria Kaiser, Head of the Center for Cultural Property Protection, as part of the Expert Insights series. This lecture series offers graduates the opportunity to engage with international experts on current topics in management, leadership, innovation, and societal responsibility.

Lecture Overview

Crises create clarity – often painful clarity. Under time pressure, with incomplete information, and with significant responsibility, decisions must be made that expose conflicting priorities: What do we save when we cannot protect or rescue everything?
Drawing on her extensive operational experience and military decision-making logic, Anna Kaiser demonstrates how to act in a structured and responsible manner in highly complex and uncertain situations. These dynamics become particularly tangible in the field of cultural property protection, where risks, values, and societal meaning are inseparably intertwined.

Relevance for Cultural Property Protection

Natural disasters, climate change, and human-made threats endanger not only human lives but also cultural heritage. When not everything can be protected at once, conflicting objectives emerge – and effective decision-making requires clear prioritisation.
This lecture highlights why cultural property protection is an essential component of responsible crisis management and at the same time a key mission of the Austrian Armed Forces.
