Within the framework of the Interreg project "Roman Trails", which aims to shed new light on Roman history north of the Danube – including the military life in the Austrian–Czech border region – Assoz. Prof. Dr. Anna Kaiser offers a unique insight into the everyday world of Roman soldiers.
The Kremser Humanistische gesellschaft warmly invites you to this lecture.
A glimpse behind the military façade
What truly occupied a Roman soldier of the Imperial period in everyday life? The enemy at the gates – or rather the practical concerns of daily living?
Drawing on original letters and written documents, the lecture looks behind the military façade of the Roman Empire. It reveals garrison life, personal worries, complaints and longings, as well as the soldiers’ experiences far from home.
About the Kremser Humanistische Gesellschaft

Roman Trails
The project focuses on the creation of a common, cross-border thematic region of the areas of South Moravia and the northern part of Lower Austria (Weinviertel), based on the - little known - Roman history north of the Danube and the establishment of interactive (long-distance) hiking and cycling trails along the traces of the Roman history.
