On September 2nd, a significant leadership transition took place in Korneuburg (Lower Austria): Anna Kaiser, Head of the Center for Cultural Property Protection at the University for Continuing Education Krems, assumed command of the Austrian Forces Disaster Relief Unit (AFDRU) – the specialized disaster relief unit of the Austrian Armed Forces.
Anna Kaiser’s journey began with an early fascination for the Roman military, which led her from studying ancient history to completing a doctoral dissertation on the daily life of Roman soldiers. As a PhD holder in Ancient Studies and an experienced militia officer, she brings together expertise from both worlds. Her military knowledge directly informs the work of the Center for Cultural Property Protection, which is dedicated to protecting vulnerable cultural proeprty in Lower Austria and beyond. From paintings to historic building ensembles, the center develops strategies to preserve cultural heritage in times of crisis and to prepare for disaster scenarios.
