Description

The Center for Biomedical Technology has successfully developed extracorporeal liver support technologies. In this project new targets for extracorporeal liver support will be investigated. A spectrum of bile acids will be tested for their depletion from blood using adsorbent-based apheresis systems. Additionally, the influence of liver support systems on human serum albumins (HSA) regarding oxidized HSA-fractions and changes in albumin conformation will be evaluated. Furthermore, it will be tested whether the quantitative change of oxidized HSA can be used as biomarker to optimize treatment time in extracorporeal liver support.
