Design and validation of new methods for the prevention of microbial contamination in electronically controllable water fittings

Description

Water is our most important food! However, drinking water is also perishable and can under certain circumstances - contamination by pathogenic bacteria - also represent a high health risk. The tap is the last link in the long chain from water supplier to consumer. For some years now, water taps have been perceived as a recognized reservoir for microorganisms and as a risk of contamination and infection. In order to protect the consumer from microbiological contamination and to guarantee maximum safety, water fittings must meet the highest quality requirements. This can only be achieved through the targeted development of new sensor-controlled electronic fittings. The basis for this will be laid in this project, in which conventional electronic and manual water installations which are available on the market will be tested in long-term experiments. During the experiments, the bacterial contamination with classical water pathogens such as Legionella pneumophilia and Pseudomonas aeruginosa will be analyzed. ** This project is cofinaced by the government of lower Austria and EFRE (www.efre.gv.at).
