Description
The TRIC – Toward Resilient and Innovative Communities: Making Uncertainty Productive – is an international collaboration that addresses one of the key challenges of contemporary societies: how individuals, educational institutions, and workplaces can better navigate uncertainty, rapid change, and complex transitions. The project brings together partners from higher education, vocational education and training (VET), civil society, and industry across Europe to develop innovative approaches that strengthen “uncertainty competence” — the ability to respond constructively, creatively, and collaboratively to unpredictable situations. Rather than viewing uncertainty only as a risk or challenge, TRIC explores how it can become a catalyst for learning, innovation, resilience, and social participation. The project focuses particularly on major life and educational transitions, such as the move from school to higher education, from education to work, career changes, and transitions across different social and cultural environments. Special attention is given to the experiences of diverse learner groups, including young adults, migrants, and individuals facing social or educational disadvantages. The project develops evidence-based pedagogical approaches, digital tools, micro-credentials, and communities of practice that support educators, trainers, students, and professionals in dealing with uncertain and rapidly changing contexts. Through participatory pilot activities and international collaboration, TRIC aims to create practical and scalable solutions for both educational and workplace settings. The University for Continuing Education Krems (UWK) plays a central role in the project and contributes its extensive expertise in adult education, lifelong learning, social inclusion, and educational innovation. Researchers from the Department for Continuing Education Research and Educational Technologies are actively involved in the development of pedagogical concepts, the design and evaluation of pilot interventions, and the analysis of transition experiences across different learner groups. UWK also contributes to research activities related to inclusion, competence development, and innovative learning environments, helping to ensure that the project’s outcomes are both scientifically grounded and practically relevant for European education and training systems.
