The Department for E-Governance and Administration at the University for Continuing Education Krems is participating in the newly launched European project DIGIMPACT.EU – Digital transformation for university-born innovation and entrepreneurship. The project is funded by the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT) under its Higher Education Institutions (HEI) Initiative, with a total budget of EUR 1.34 million and a planned duration of 25 months.

DIGIMPACT.EU aims to strengthen the capacity of higher education institutions (HEIs) to drive digital innovation and entrepreneurship – in particular by leveraging digital transformation to address societal challenges and generate meaningful social impact.

In addition to the Department for E-Governance and Administration, the Department for Migration and Globalisation and the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) of the University for Continuing Education Krems are also actively involved. Their joint efforts focus on embedding digital innovation competencies into teaching, administration, and institutional processes, as well as on strengthening cooperation with regional stakeholders.

The project is coordinated by the Gdańsk University of Technology (Poland) and the consortium includes Universidad de Granada (Spain), University for Continuing Education Krems (Austria) and University of the Aegean (Greece),  and Crowdpolicy – a pioneering open innovation company from Greece.

DIGIMPACT.EU pursues three main objectives:

  1. Building capacity for digital innovation and entrepreneurship within HEIs through dedicated courses and mentorship for trainers, administrators, and students, as well as by providing tools and services that support the full digital innovation lifecycle – from ideation and prototyping to business development and social impact.
  2. Establishing cross-sectoral partnerships between HEIs, public administrations, businesses, and social enterprises to drive institutional change and deliver impact in areas such as digital migration, emergency response, sustainable agriculture, and urban mobility.
  3. Positioning HEIs as local and regional innovation hubs by integrating digital capabilities across education, research, and business support, and by promoting entrepreneurial activity that leads to the creation and growth of digital start-ups and scale-ups.

With DIGIMPACT.EU, our department contributes to actively shaping the digital transformation in education, public administration, and society – within a European framework and with a clear focus on practical relevance and impact.
