The European Research Centre for Book and Paper Conservation-Restoration and St. Florian Abbey offer a winterschool on the topic of "Description of Medieval Book Covers".

 

Details of the winterschool:

This winterschool was developed in the framework of the DiTAH project which focuses on the digitization of university teaching in the field of manuscript research.

alternatively Patricia Engel: The Thesaurus to describe book covers
Monday, 13th March, 9-12 am Introduction into the collection of book covers in the Monastery of St. Florian
An example of how to describe a book cover
Monday, 13th March, 12 pm Lunch
Monday, 13th March, 13-18 pm Other features left by Prof. Klee which need to be taken into consideration – Conservation reports and pictures etc.
Tuesday, 14th March, 9-12 am Students describe the first book cover themselves
Tuesday, 14th March, 12 pm Lunch
Tuesday, 14th March, 13-18 pm Discussion and feedback on the first descriptions
Traces of conservation measures and how to identify them with the help of Klees catalogue of documentation
Wednesday, 15th March – Thursday, 16th March Free work to describe MA book covers and get into routine with this
