In the rapidly expanding city of Bahir Dar, new forms of collaboration are emerging between residents of informal settlements, local authorities, and researchers. As part of the GIRT research project, a series of structured community meetings in January and February 2026 illustrated how transdisciplinary approaches can contribute to more inclusive urban development practices in Ethiopia.
In Addis Ababa, the GIRT project initiated a transdisciplinary dialogue that brings together residents, public authorities, researchers, and development actors to jointly explore pathways for more inclusive urban development. The process focused on a specific kebele housing district but also addresses broader urban challenges and transformation dynamics.
On 12 November 2025, around 35 stakeholders gathered at Lúrio University’s Marrere Campus in Nampula, Mozambique, for the second transdisciplinary workshop within the GIRT process.
