The overall Austrian University Development Plan 2022-2027 issued by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research defines objectives as well as focal points to promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Therefore, the University for Continuing Education Krems' current Development Plan includes stronger consideration of the SDGs as one of its key strategies. At the beginning of 2023, the "Overall University Platform for Sustainable Development (SDGs)" was founded to keep an eye on SDGs implementation.

This platform is intended to support, alongside the university-wide fields of research, the University for Continuing Education Krems to develop in a sustainable way and to support the SDGs on three levels: Research and cooperations, teaching as well as participation in UNINetz, Allianz nachhaltige Universitäten and Climate Change Center Austria, and intrauniversity sustainable development through the Sustainability Office.

What characterize the platform's activities is a transdisciplinary orientation, the promotion of knowledge transfer and making research findings effective for society. To do so, the platform seeks to intensify its collaboration with institutions and actors both inside and outside the university. Besides, the platform intends to critically question future perspectives of coexistence, to analyze new developments, and to create interfaces between different disciplines and actors.
