During his visit to EDU|days 2022 on April 6, the Federal Minister for Education, Science and Research, Martin Polaschek, emphasized the high relevance that media competence has. EDU|days, a joint project of the University for Continuing Education Krems, the University College of Teacher Education Lower Austria, the Ministry of Science and numerous other cooperation partners, targets and gives an impetus to teachers of all subjects for teaching and learning with digital media. The great interest is demonstrated by approximately 300 registrations made for exchanging ideas and information on site.
It was not only the pandemic-related changes in education towards distance learning that revealed the great importance of digital media and tools. In his welcoming address, Martin Polaschek, Federal Minister for Education, Science and Research, highlighted the importance of EDU|days and digitalization in schools in general. Events like this help to sustainably establish digital innovation, the minister said. On this occasion, he referred to the new subject Digital Basic Education, which will be offered from the 5th to the 8th grade, as digitization is more than just surfing the Internet and programming. In this context, Polaschek mentioned dealing with fake news, as an example. In addition to the EDU|days, the program also included a working meeting with Friedrich Faulhammer, Rector of the University for Continuing Education.
The comprehensive program of the EDU|days reflects the numerous aspects of digitalization, addressing social media as well as gamification, didactic tools designed for different subjects, or didactics applied in hybrid settings in general. With years of experience, especially with blended learning formats, the University for Continuing Education Krems has continued to build on its previous strength in combining classroom as well as online teaching. The EDU|days 2022 are a good opportunity to share this long-standing expertise.
