Description

In May 2017, the new law on engineers (Ingenieurgesetz – IngG 2017) became effective, transforming the former professional title “Ingenieur/in” into an internationally comparable, professional qualification. This qualification is assigned to level 6 of the Austrian national qualification framework – NQF. Prerequisites for acquiring this qualification are the "Reifeprüfung and Diploma examination" of a College for Higher Vocational Education (or equivalent) and relevant professional experience. The IngG 2017 also introduced a new certification process, where certification agencies validate the formal and expert commissions the professional prerequisites. On behalf of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs, Danube University evaluates this new law on engineers. On module deals with the functionality and the appropriateness of the new certification process, a second module investigates the effectiveness and the acceptance of the new procedure in the education system and in the labour market.
