Leave of absence from your studies
Students can take leave of absence from studies for a number of reasons. The leave of absence must be determined by the responsible academic authority for student matters by means of a notification.
For the duration of the leave of absence, admission to studies remains effective but the continuation is not registered. As a leave of absence also has negative consequences, this step should be considered well! If you have any questions or need assistance, the Service Center for Students is here to help.
What reasons are there for a leave of absence?
When can you apply or withdraw the application?
What do you need to consider?
How do you find out if your application has been approved?
How do you receive your student leaflet?
Deregistration from your studies
Deregistration from your studies is generally possible at any time. The legal consequence of deregistering from your studies is the termination of admission in accordance with § 71 para. 1 no. 1 UG 2002.
The application for deregistration must be submitted in writing (a simple personal confirmation by email) and addressed to the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs via the Student Service Center (SCS). No justification is required.
If you wish to resume your studies at a later date, you will have to reapply for a place.
Please note: As of September 30, 2023, it will no longer be legally possible to re-enroll in a master's program established before October 1, 2021.
A better alternative to deregistering from your studies can therefore be a leave of absence.
Further information on cancellation conditions and detailed legal provisions regarding deregistration can be found in the following regulation.
