At the 6th Co²Libri Workshop on Research Ethics, RESTATE team member Lina Omran presented Research Ethics in Diaspora and Refugee Research. The session explored key ethical challenges researchers face when working with refugee and diaspora communities, including informed consent, participant safety, transnational repression, trauma, and the responsible representation of vulnerable populations.

At the Reimagining Afghan Futures: Mapping Knowledge across Disciplines workshop, RESTATE team member Dr. Ahmad Wali Ahmad Yar presented Reimagining Statehood from Abroad: Diaspora Agency and the Politics of State-(Re)Making in Afghanistan. Drawing on the conceptual framework of the ERC-funded RESTATE project, the presentation examined how Afghan diaspora communities engage in transnational political participation and contribute to processes of state-(re)making beyond territorial borders. The discussion highlighted the role of displacement, political agency, and evolving state-society relations in shaping alternative visions of Afghanistan’s future.
Special issue workshop

The workshop “Encountering Other States: Migrants’ Political Thinking across Home, Transit and Host States”, co-organised with Birgitte Stampe Holst and Zachary Whyte, brought together researchers from diverse geographical contexts for inspiring discussions on migration, political thinking, and transnational perspectives. The event also provided an opportunity to reconnect with co-authors, explore Copenhagen, and present first conceptual reflections from the RESTATE project.
